Diversity management at HOBART: success through diversity

  • HOBART signs the "Charta der Vielfalt" (German diversity charter) and in doing so, advocates a prejudice-free, respectful workplace
  • Support for women in technical career fields shall be strengthened further

Offenburg – "We are certain that diversity and inclusion makes working together more successful," says Axel Beck, Group President Global Warewash of HOBART GmbH. He adds, "We value the diverse experiences, ways of thinking and viewpoints that our international workforce brings to the table." The global manufacturer of warewashing technology wishes to make the most of these advantages even more, and with this in mind, recently signed the national "Charta der Vielfalt" (German diversity charter) corporate initiative. The non-profit organisation aims to promote the recognition, appreciation and integration of diversity in the workplace. By signing the "Charta der Vielfalt", employers are indicating that they are intending to create and promote equal opportunities for their employees.

Supporting women in technical career fields
One example of the extensive approach to diversity at HOBART is the "Women's Council" initiative. In this context, the network focuses on reinforcing the diversity strategy, supporting women in technical career fields and management roles as well as improving the balance between career and family life. "More diversity means that different viewpoints and experiences meet, which ultimately means better use of the performance potential that is there," explains Beck. Additionally, according to the Group President Global Warewash, the diversity concept at HOBART aims to further force the working environment in relation to acceptance and mutual trust.

"By signing the 'Charta der Vielfalt' we wish to send a clear message that diversity is a permanent aspect of our corporate culture. We have also developed a new management model called MOVE. It stands for 'Motivation, Offenheit, Verantwortung und Entwicklung' (motivation, openness, responsibility and development). With these values we wish to shape daily interactions and cultivate successful team work," explains Beck.

Charta der Vielfalt
The "Charta der Vielfalt" (German diversity charter) is a voluntary agreement published in 2006 and also the name of said organisation which is advocating a prejudice-free workplace. Since its inception, it has amassed around 3,000 signatories. In addition to HOBART, this includes both well-known large companies as well as smaller and medium-sized companies, academic and social institutions, as well as authorities. The Charta der Vielfalt states that the German economy can only be successful as a result of globalisation and demographic changes, if it takes advantage of the diversity of employees.
