Sustainable institutional food service requires smart reusable concepts. With its automated logistics and warewashing solution, SEMELOG creates an efficient reusable cycle for stainless steel containers—supported by high-performance warewashing technology from HOBART.
SEMELOG is an innovative public-private partnership in France that has been operating the world’s first robot-assisted warewashing and logistics platform since January 2026. Its goal is to replace single-use plastic in school and institutional catering kitchens with sustainable stainless steel containers. HOBART contributed valuable expertise to the project and, with nine conveyor dishwashers specially developed for this purpose, forms the centerpiece of this large-scale project.
The central washing and logistics unit handles the cleaning, drying, storage, tracking, and distribution of GN containers for numerous commercial kitchens in the Île-de-France region. With a capacity of up to 160,000 meals per day and approximately 40,000 GN containers cleaned daily, SEMELOG is setting new standards for the industrial implementation of reusable concepts. State-of-the-art automation technology, digital traceability, and intelligent quality controls ensure maximum hygiene and process reliability.
HOBART’s expertise is evident in the optimal cleaning and drying of approximately 130,000 items each day. Each wash station is precisely tailored to a specific type of dishware. Even stubborn dirt on containers transported from school kitchens without prior soaking or manual pre-cleaning is reliably removed during the process.
The switch to reusable stainless steelware prevents approximately 450 metric tons of plastic waste annually. At the same time, municipalities benefit from resource-efficient logistics, reduced water consumption, and a cost-effective long-term solution for institutional food service.
